Swan Hill

Heart of the Murray

The town of Swan Hill is packed with rich history. Its greenery and Mediterranean climate were once enjoyed by Aboriginal tribes who roamed the area thousands of years before the first Europeans arrived in 1836.

Located on the south bank of the Murray River, the town was named “Swan Hill” after a flock of noisy swans kept explorer Major Thomas Mitchell up all night at his camp.

Now called the Heart of the Murray, Swan Hill’s historic landscapes act as a backdrop for its modern streets and beautiful outdoor scenery.
